Meghan Mannon, owner of The Well Behaved Tulip

The Well Behaved Tulip, opened by Meghan Mannon in October 2024, is built on her commitment to sourcing the highest quality flowers in peak-bloom. This means each stem Meghan uses in her artisanal arrangements come from all around the world. With over 20 years of experience in floral design, Meghan was deeply influenced by her father’s passion for botany and rigorous standard for flower quality.

As a chemical engineer who was looking to retire, Meghan’s father, John, unknowingly purchased a flower farm in Sonoma, California in the Winter of the 1980s. John’s intention for the land was  to plant grapevines, but when heirloom flowers began to bloom in the spring, he recognized the farm’s potential.

John’s scientific background shaped his approach to being a flower farmer and has instilled Meghan’s techniques of flower processing and proper storage, which guarantees that flowers are handled with care to maintain beauty and longevity.

Meghan lives by her father’s meticulous approach to flowers, only sourcing blooms from certified fair-trade wholesalers to ensure the flowers she buys are in peak season. Meghan is willing to pay more for the highest quality. Her stems come from all over the world including, Ecuador, Holland, Italy, California, and Israel.

At The Well Behaved Tulip, Meghan offers artisanal, custom-designed floral arrangements, plants, and event services. Her strong botanical expertise, combined with her artistic abilities, allows her to create stunning arrangements.

What does The Well Behaved Tulip & Kennett Collaborative have in common?

The two share a mission to make things beautiful, and both are located in the same building, right in the heart of downtown Kennett Square! Ever since the flower shop opened, Kennett Collaborative’s staff has loved walking into the building and smelling that fresh cut flower fragrance in the hallway. Meghan explains that the scent actually comes from the process of stripping the leaves off the stems to prepare them for the vase. It’s a wonderful way to start the workday.

What drew Meghan to Kennett Square to open her artisanal flower shop?

After living in Charlotte, North Carolina for 17 years Meghan and her husband wanted to move North towards a more rural area. They landed in Middletown, DE and while moving into the new home, Meghan asked her painter, ‘Where are the good restaurants?’ The painter directed her towards Kennett Square.

Upon arrival, Meghan and her husband felt at home and agreed that Kennett Square is where they belong. A few months later, retail space became available on State Street and Meghan explains that, “Everything fell into place, lucky and grateful that we’re here!”

Stop into The Well Behaved Tulip on State Street where every flower is perfectly poised and artfully arranged. Let Meghan’s well-mannered blooms add charm and beauty to your special moments!
