Ready… Set… Run! The Kennett Run is back, gearing up for its 35th year of racing through the picturesque streets of Kennett Square on Saturday, May 4th. The cornerstone of this legacy, which has raised over $1.28 million for local nonprofits, is the community. Powered by the community, for the community, lace up those sneakers and be a part of this local tradition.

With six options—including our unique PoweRun event—there’s something for everyone. Whether tackling the 5K Run/Walk presented by ChristianaCare, conquering the 10K, leveling up for the PowerRun, or cheering on the youngest runners in the Kids Fun Run, this race is for all skill levels, abilities, and ages. Run, don’t walk to register, as Early Bird Registration ends on Saturday, April 6th!

Connection to community is experienced on race day from running into neighbors to running beside acquaintances and co-workers with 73% of participants residing in Chester County. This connection extends beyond race day into impacting local nonprofits and strengthening community through education, health, environment and social initiatives. Past recipients include Meals on Wheels, YoungMoms, AHHAH, After-the-Bell, and more! In addition, runners have the choice to designate $5 of their registration fee to their local high school sports programs within the Chest-Mont League.

Now, let’s talk about getting “Kennett Run ready.” New for 2024 are two running groups to help prepare participants for race day. Whether you’re a novice looking to conquer your first 5K or a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best, our Couch to 5K and 1 Mile to 5K groups, meeting at the Kennett YMCA on Wednesdays, are here to support and motivate you every step of the way. If you’re looking for a more challenging feat, sign up for the  PowerRun, which is not just a race; it’s an exhilarating test of strength and endurance. By completing bench presses and pull-ups prior to the 5K or 10K–which subtracts thirty seconds or one minute, respectively–runners can even achieve a negative finish time. It’s a challenge unlike any other for those looking to level up their personal performance.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the finish line. The community party is just getting started! After crossing the finish line, kick back and relax with live music, a spirited school mascot race, games, activities, and delicious food and drinks. It’s the perfect way to celebrate your accomplishment and soak in the joyous atmosphere surrounded by fellow runners and community members.

And guess what? The festivities don’t end there! Keep the party going and join everyone for the Cinco de Mayo Festival on State Street, just a short walk from Anson B. Nixon Park. Why limit the fun to just one event? Run, celebrate, and savor the vibrant culture and camaraderie that make our community so special.

Last but certainly not least, The Kennett Run is sponsored by incredible local corporations and businesses. ChristianaCare, Chatham Financial, CQ Medical, Tri-M Group, Sinton Air Conditioning & Heating, Perna & Abracht, Delaware Orthopaedics, Phillips Mushroom Farms, Pollock Music, Chester County Eye Care, Gish’s Furniture, M. Davis & Sons, Inc. – their support builds a stronger community, one step at a time.

In the words of Robert Merkle, President of Kennett Run Charities, “Kennett Run Charities Inc. is thrilled to have ChristianaCare join our family of supporting sponsors.” ChristianaCare is on board as the presenting sponsor for the 5K race of the Kennett Run for the 2024 through 2029 period. This long-term sponsorship helps create a solid financial base for the Kennett Run. It shows the long-term commitment ChristianaCare is making to the Southern Chester County community as they continue to grow their facilities here.

So what are you waiting for? Join the race day and experience the magnetism of the Kennett Run for yourself. Small Town. Big Race. Strong Community. That’s what it’s all about. See you at the starting line!
