Small Business Saturday is right around the corner—Saturday, November 30—and there’s no better place to celebrate than in Kennett Square. Our town is filled with independent shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. When you choose to shop here, you’re not just buying a gift. You’re strengthening the fabric of our community.

Kennett Square is fully decked out in beautiful gemstones and glittery gold, and we invite you to come discover our holiday treasures. Whether you’re starting your holiday shopping, treating yourself to something special, or simply enjoying a day out in our charming small town, Kennett Square’s local businesses are ready to welcome you with curated products, personal service, and plenty of warm winter cheer.

What you can find in Kennett Square

Kennett Square is home to dozens of small businesses that make for a vibrant, one-of-a-kind shopping experience. You can find meaningful gifts and novelty items at stores like Clean Slate Goods, Square Pear Fine Art Gallery, The Mushroom Cap, Mrs. Robinson’s Tea Shop, or Growing Tree Toy Shop. Kennett has also become a destination for home decor and design, with anchor stores like Shoppe Marché, Lieu Antiques, Gish’s Furniture, and Holly Peters Rugs. We have unique women’s boutiques like Element on State, Freda Head, Green Eyed Lady, and Chantilly Blue, and local jewelers like Bove Jewelers and Kennett Square Jewelers—and many many more!

Shopping in person at these stores means getting personalized, honest service from knowledgeable stylists who want you to feel great with what you’re bringing home. When you step into Chantilly Blue, for example, Lisa will help you find the jeans that actually fit your body—not the pair an algorithm guesses you might like, or she’ll alter them for free to make sure they’re perfect. She’ll tell you what flatters you, what doesn’t, and what will be worth the investment. You’re going to walk away with clothes that you’ll wear for years, not something that will end up in a landfill at the end of the season. It’s a level of care and expertise you won’t find online.

Why Choosing Local Matters

Shopping local is about more than convenience or charm—it’s about investing in the long-term health of our community.

Supporting the Local Economy

Dollars spent at local businesses stay here—supporting local wages, partnerships, services, and reinvestment in Kennett Square. When you shop small, your purchase helps your actual neighbors thrive. Small businesses are some of our biggest job creators. They offer pathways for entrepreneurs—many of them local families—to launch ideas, refine them, and grow.

Independent shops also make Kennett Square unique and contribute to a vibrant, walkable downtown. They’re the reason people visit, stroll our streets, take photos, and fall in love with the character of our town.

Supporting Social Wellbeing & Community Connection

Earlier this year on the Start Local Podcast, I spoke about the national loneliness crisis—and how Kennett Square is quietly ahead of the curve. Technology has made it easier to stay connected to our closest friends and family, but harder to maintain relationships with the people who form the wider circle of our lives: acquaintances, neighbors, and community members. We’ve lost so many of the everyday interactions that build trust and civility—the conversations at the cash register, the warm greetings from a barista, the kindness exchanged between people with different backgrounds and beliefs.

But walk down State Street, and that changes. Shopping locally rebuilds these small but meaningful connections. These micro-interactions strengthen our community’s social fabric and remind us how to coexist, disagree respectfully, and remain kind to one another. Shopping local isn’t just about avoiding online disappointment or poor-quality goods, it’s about rebuilding the relational health of our community.

These businesses function as social anchors, ”third places” where people meet, chat, laugh, and feel more rooted in their community. Kennett Square shines in this area because our downtown district is full of businesses that greet you by name, ask about your family, and genuinely care.

These aren’t just places to buy things. They’re places where life unfolds.

Kennett Collaborative’s Role: Supporting Small Business Through Programs and Events

In addition to shopping at Kennett Square’s brick and mortar establishments, our upcoming Holiday Village Market provides another way to support artists and entrepreneurs and fill your shopping bags with unique treasures.

Held December 6–7 and 13–14 at The Creamery, Holiday Village Market showcases more than 130 small businesses, with 40 artisan vendors each day selling handmade, small-batch, and vintage goods.

And it’s more than a market. It’s an incubator.

Several popular Kennett Square shops and restaurants first came to Kennett Square as vendors or participants in Kennett Collaborative events, including favorites like Nomadic Pies, Mezzaluna Pizza, and Wayvine. Our programs, like Holiday Village Market, help entrepreneurs test products, connect with customers, and gain the traction they need to establish storefronts right here in Kennett Square.

We’ll have a complimentary shuttle back and forth from State Street and the Creamery on Birch during Holiday Village Market hours so you can enjoy the market vendors and the shops downtown.
