Over the past few days, I’ve been reminded of something pretty extraordinary about Kennett Square. People care about this community, and they are willing to speak up for the things that make it so wonderful.

As Borough Council considered the 2027 budget this week, residents and local business owners took time to write letters, attend meetings, and share what Kennett Collaborative’s work means to them. We are moved by the outpouring of support and the generous stories people shared.

One shop owner said our programming was part of the reason she chose to open in Kennett Square. Another business owner described the connections we’ve helped her build with other local merchants. A father described our community events as experiences that are becoming his children’s core childhood memories.

These stories speak to something that can be hard to measure, a sense of connection, belonging, and pride that makes Kennett Square special.

Our town’s character doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects the values, hard work, and investment of people who care about this community. Kennett Collaborative is proud to be part of that work.

On Wednesday evening, Borough Council voted to advance the proposed 2027 budget with Kennett Collaborative’s existing funding intact. We’re grateful to the Council for its continued support, to Borough staff for their partnership, and to the businesses, donors, and festival attendees who help fund our work.

On behalf of our staff and volunteer Board of Directors, thank you to everyone who spoke up for us. Your words meant a great deal to all of us at Kennett Collaborative.

As we prepare for another holiday season in Kennett Square, I feel a renewed appreciation for the role these traditions play in people’s lives, and for the community that makes them possible.

Thank you for loving Kennett Square and helping us make it a wonderful place to call home. We look forward to seeing you on November 21 at the Holiday Light Parade.

With gratitude,

Daniel Embree
