Nestled in the heart of Kennett Square, Shoppe Marché is more than a boutique — it’s a curated experience, a reflection of high-quality design, and the vision of highly sought-after interior designer Deanna Johnson. Recently named one of the Top 50 Retail Stars in Home Décor by Home Accents Today, Shoppe Marché has quickly made a name for itself both locally and nationally.

Deanna and her husband moved to the area in 2015 when he accepted a position as a physics instructor at the University of Delaware. They made the cross-country trek from Utah with their four dogs in tow. Deanna quickly fell in love with Chester County’s trails, small-town charm, and community spirit. After a parade of tractors and a memorable visit to Talula’s Table, they knew Kennett Square was home. The shop opened in 2016.

For Deanna, creativity has always been second nature. A former dancer and theater performer, she found her calling in floral and event design, working in hospitality under Robert Redford’s team to help open a restaurant. Her talents even led her to the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, where she designed florals for the Olympic Committee, and collaborated with renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.

Her journey into interior design started with flowers — and grew organically into home styling. As friends and clients sought her help reimagining their spaces, her entrepreneurial spirit flourished.

“I’ve always been inspired by art and nature,” says Deanna. “Design should tell a story — the client’s story.”

That belief is the heart of Shoppe Marché. The boutique is known for its eclectic, artistic, and textile-driven aesthetic, combining modern freshness with organic textures and a thoughtful blend of old and new. From bold textiles to artisan-made pieces, Deanna curates her inventory, choosing pieces you won’t find anywhere else — especially not in big-box retail.

“I sell the things I could never find when I moved here,” she shares. “Everything we carry is thoughtfully chosen, from people we believe in.”

Beyond retail, Shoppe Marché offers full-service interior design, working closely with clients through a holistic process — listening, gathering, planning, sourcing, and finally, executing those all-important finishing touches. Whether it’s a full home renovation or a small refresh, Deanna and her trusted team of contractors approach each project with care, treating every space as a canvas for personal storytelling.

“It’s incredibly rewarding when customers tell me how we’ve transformed their homes — often using pieces they already had. We reimagine the familiar to create something elevated and deeply personal.”

Deanna’s work has not gone unnoticed: Shoppe Marché was named Best New Boutique and Best Staging in Main Line Today’s Best of the Main Line in its first year and has been featured in Delaware Today numerous times.

On the day I came to the shop to interview Deanna for this article, Carson Kressly of Bravo just happened to stop by.

“Recognition from people who study and truly understand this industry is incredible — but the best part is the community,” says Deanna. “Kennett Square has been so welcoming. We’re grateful every day.”
